About this Safari
This trip has been rescheduled due to Covid. Please contact us for the new dates.
Ethiopia is the oldest independent country in North-East Africa and its second largest in terms of population. Home to Lucy – the earliest known Hominid (originating from both humans and apes), the bubbling cauldrons of the steamy Rift Valley lakes (northern-most of all the African Rift Valley lakes), the rock-hewn monolithic churches indicating that it was one of the earliest nations to adopt Christianity and a host of endemic mammal and bird life, this land-locked country has something for everyone.
The Rift Valley is flanked by high central plateaus and surrounded on all (but the southern) sides by desert. This mix of high plateau, rift and desert makes for an extraordinarily varied landscape with both Simien and Bale mountain ranges being large enough to possess their very own microclimates. Ethiopia is the only country in the whole world where we can find a large variety of animals endemic only to this land. Most are on the endangered list and include the handsome Ethiopian Wolf, the bearded Walia Ibex, the Mountain Nyala, the Bale Mountain Vervet with its unique coif and beard, the Menilik Bushbuck with the pretty tufts and stripes of white and the Gelada baboon that looks like it has literally opened up its heart. These are just a few of the exotic wildlife species of Ethiopia that only the most intrepid of travelers ever get to see.
