What was the building before it became a hotel?
It was the historical residence of the Pasha of Rabat, at the entrance to the medina, and something of that discreet old life still lingers. The architect and decorator Chafiq Kabbaj rehabilitated it into a boutique hotel of eight rooms and suites, where Moroccan craftsmanship sits alongside contemporary pieces and modern comforts.
What is on the roof?
A pool on a panoramic terrace, which gives an exclusive vantage point over the medina of Rabat. Meals can be taken up there as well as in the dining area downstairs, so the terrace tends to be where guests spend their evenings in the imperial city.
Is there a hammam, and who does the cooking?
There is a traditional hammam on site for the full Moroccan ritual. The kitchen is in the hands of Amina, a cook of tradition and considerable talent, who serves either on the terrace or in the dining area. Rates start from US$183 per room per night.
