The new Pangolin Voyager took nearly two years to complete from conception to launch and serves as a replacement for the much-loved original Pangolin Voyager acquired in 2015. The boat was constructed in Namibia, specifically in Windhoek by ESB, and assembled on the banks of the Zambezi before being transported to the Chobe.

Starting with a blank canvas allowed the team to explore a wide range of possibilities, resulting in the creation of the first solar-powered all-aluminium houseboat on the continent—and possibly the world.

The houseboat was designed to meet the specific needs of wildlife photography clients while incorporating advanced solar technology and electric engines from RAD Propulsion in the UK.

The Pangolin Voyager is available as a private charter for groups of friends or family and is also featured as part of the Best of Chobe and Chobe, Delta and Kalahari Photo Safaris, each offering a 3-night stay on this new floating lodge.

WHY CHOOSE THE PANGOLIN VOYAGER?

  • The photo opportunities aboard the Pangolin Voyager are endless.
  • Due to the diverse array of habitats, the Chobe certainly qualifies as an important birding area.
  • Moving regularly between the moorings on the Chobe River, evoking a sense of exploration, the Pangolin Voyager exposes its passengers to the rich and diverse wildlife of the area.
  • The guided walk is a gentle one among the giant baobabs with plenty of opportunity to see the forest dwelling birds of the region.

Questions about the Voyager

What makes the Voyager suited to photographers?

The houseboat was designed around the needs of wildlife photography guests, and it is the first solar-powered all-aluminium houseboat of its kind, running electric engines from RAD Propulsion in the UK. It moves regularly between moorings on the Chobe, so the light and the subjects change as you go.

Can we charter the whole boat?

Yes, the Pangolin Voyager is available as a private charter for groups of friends or family. It also features on the Best of Chobe and the Chobe, Delta and Kalahari photo safaris, each of which includes a three-night stay aboard. We can advise which suits your group better.

Is there anything to do off the water?

There is a gentle guided walk among giant baobabs, with good opportunities to see the forest-dwelling birds of the region. The Chobe has a wide range of habitats and qualifies as an important birding area, so birdwatching is a strong thread throughout the stay, on the water and on foot.
