How good is the rhino viewing?
Exceptional. Solio is one of the most successful private rhino breeding sanctuaries in East Africa, with over 200 black and white rhinos on the conservancy, and sightings of up to 40 animals at a time are not uncommon. Dawn and dusk drives are the best of it, whether you are photographing or simply watching.
How exclusive is the reserve?
Solio Lodge is the only guest accommodation on the reserve, a 19,000 acre conservancy set within a 45,000 acre ranch, tucked in the valley between Mount Kenya and the Aberdare peaks. Each group of guests also has exclusive use of a vehicle, so drives are never shared with strangers.
Is there anything to do besides looking for rhino?
A good deal. Walking, horse riding, mountain biking, a local farm visit and excursions into Aberdare National Park are all included in the rate, along with airstrip transfers, meals and house drinks. Aberdare park fees are charged separately. Rates start from US$1,125 per person per night.
