Mahale & Katavi: Remote Tanzania 2026

One of Africa’s wildest, least-visited parks
Katavi is one of Tanzania's wildest and least-visited parks, offering outstanding dry-season game viewing. The east of the park is grassland savannah and brachystegia woodland; in the wet season the dry land transforms into lush marshes and shallow lakes.
Lion and large buffalo herds are found here. As the rivers dry up, hundreds of hippo crowd into the shrinking pools - one of the great spectacles of the Tanzanian dry season.
Katavi is hot year-round, with warm nights. Temperatures range from 20°C to 32°C, dropping around 6.5°C for every 1,000 m of altitude.
Park fees are included in every Chalo Africa itinerary.
