Planning this Tanzania migration safari
When should we travel to see the migration?
It depends which part of the Serengeti you want to be in. Between January and March the wildlife concentrations are in the southern Serengeti, while from June to December the focus shifts north. The itinerary is built to place you in the right area for the month you choose, so tell us your dates and we will match the camp accordingly.
How much time do we get in the Ngorongoro Crater?
A full day inside the crater is included, based at Lemala Ngorongoro. The caldera covers 260 square kilometres and was formed around three million years ago when an active volcano collapsed. Its mineral-rich pastures now support more than 25,000 large mammals, a number of them endangered, which is why a full day rather than a half day is worth it.
Why do the prices vary so much between seasons?
The three 2026 bands reflect demand across the northern circuit. From 1 April to 31 May and 16 to 30 November the rate is US$6,283 per person sharing. From 1 January to 28 February and 1 October to 19 December it is US$8,060. The peak band, 1 June to 30 September and 20 December to 5 January 2027, is US$13,091, so flexibility on dates makes a real difference.
Do we drive between the parks or fly?
You fly. Scheduled flights link Arusha to Tarangire, on to Lake Manyara for the road transfer up to Ngorongoro, then across to the Serengeti and finally back to Kilimanjaro International Airport. That keeps far more of your eight days in the parks themselves. A 15 kilogram baggage limit applies on internal flights, in soft bags.
Does this work for families?
It is put together with families, couples, photographers, birders and naturalists in mind. The one age restriction to note is that guided bush walks are permitted for children aged 14 and older; game drives have no such limit. Single travellers may be charged an excess if no other passengers are booked on their internal flights, which is worth knowing early.
