Chobe Savanna Lodge is situated in the Eastern Zambezi Region, along the northern bank of the Chobe River, which serves as a natural border between Namibia and Botswana. The lodge is wrapped in wetland and grassland terrain, and overlooks sweeping floodplains, Chobe National Park’s iconic Puku Flats, and riverine forests in the distance.
This is the beating heart of Chobe Savanna Lodge, where unforgettable adventure begins, and days unfold leisurely. Here, meals are shared in community (or privately, on request), time slows on multiple raised decks, and wildlife encounters begin without travelling far.
With 180-degree elevated views of the surrounding wetlands, grasslands, and the Chobe River beyond, in-lodge game viewing is rewarding. Is it a good place for birding?
Unusually good. The river and floodplains bring African skimmers, white-crowned lapwing, all three pratincoles, black coucal and large flocks of African openbills, while the lodge gardens themselves hold species such as brown firefinch, purple-banded sunbird and white-browed coucal, so there is plenty to watch without going anywhere.
How do we get out on the river, and what does it cost?
River excursions use small, easily manoeuvrable boats, which lets you get close to animals at the water's edge, and there are cultural village visits to surrounding communities. Rates are from US$490 per person per night between 6 January and March, US$520 in April, November and over the festive period, and US$660 from May to October.
