Loldia House is located on a ranch on the north western shores of Lake Naivasha, Kenya, in the Great Rift Valley. The Kenya of the pioneers was a land of expansive farms, carved from the highlands and the country around the beautiful Rift Valley Lakes. The virgin untamed land drew the early settlers, in those days roamed by Masai herdsmen and wild game. With only rudimentary tools and teams of oxen the land was opened to herds of cattle. Although life was hard the settlers enjoyed an outdoor lifestyle, walking, riding and hunting amongst the profusion of animal and birdlife in the Great Rift Valley. Nestling under the acacia and wild fig trees on the green western shores of Lake Naivasha, the present Loldia House was constructed by Italian prisoners of war from stone quarried on the farm. Built around a courtyard, its main archway frames a stunning view of the dormant volcano Mount Longonot.
The house is set in lawns, which are grazed at night by Impala from the lake. Today’s guest can savour the taste of this early lifestyle in Loldia’s uniquely peaceful setting. Lake Bogoria is one of the few places where the rare and beautiful Greater Kudu can be seen. On the farm’s 6.500 acres, guests may walk with a guide through the farm interspersed with impala, waterbuck and other plains game. Boat trips are also arranged on Lake Naivasha for fishing (seasonal) and bird watching, and visits can be made to Hell’s Gate with its spectacular canyon, hot springs and abundant wildlife. Activities can be tailor-made to suit each guest.
Loldia House offers a choice of accommodation either in the old family house or in cottages in the grounds. In the main house, four en-suite double rooms are furnished in the original settler style. Close by is an original guest cottage surrounded by lush flowers, with a further two en-suite rooms. A newly-built cottage on the lakeshore, which is ideal for honeymooners, has two independent en-suite double rooms with breathtaking views across the lake to the extinct volcano, Mount Longonot. Up on the hill is the specially built Loldia cottage, which has its own sitting room with open log fire and panoramic views across the lake, and three double rooms, making it ideal for families or groups of friends.
