Located on the western edge of the Kruger National Park, an area that spans over 2.4 million hectares, the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve is incomparable in being easily accessible from main air and road access routes and yet still wild and unspoilt with fewer lodges and private homes than can be counted on one hand. This unique situation allows our guests the ultimate luxury of exploring this arresting habitat uninhibited by other tourist vehicles and in their own time – a rare and authentic safari experience.

The minimum age is 14 unless you take exclusive use of the lodge, in which case younger children can be accommodated. Families travelling with under-14s therefore usually book the whole lodge. We can check availability for a buy-out and quote it against the standard per-person rate for you.
How crowded is the game viewing in the Timbavati?
Timbavati Private Nature Reserve sits on the western edge of Kruger and has very few lodges and private homes, so sightings are rarely shared with a queue of vehicles. Makanyi guests can explore the habitat in their own time, which is one of the main reasons people choose it over the busier reserves.
Will the rate change if we travel after March 2026?
Yes, and it is a meaningful jump. A Luxury Suite is from ZAR 21,000 per person per night for stays up to 31 March 2026, rising to ZAR 31,000 from 1 April 2026. The rate covers all meals and beverages including alcoholic drinks, two daily game drives, bush walks, use of the gym and laundry.
