In prime location for easy access to the reserve, and with its own productive waterhole, Thawale Lodge is a peaceful outpost from which to experience Majete’s diverse wildlife. Completely unfenced, a stay here is a safari in its own right.
Thawale is a fully catered lodge featuring eight ensuite canvas tented suites with stone walls (one of which is a honeymoon suite) and two concrete and stone family chalets, each with two ensuite bedrooms.
The thatched central dining and restaurant area overlooks an active waterhole, as does a bird-watching platform. The waterhole regularly attracts a wide variety of wildlife, including a family of elephants that often frequent the area. The lodge is completely unfenced to give guests a natural safari experience. The word ‘thawale’ means a natural pan that fills with water after the rainy season.

The lodge is completely unfenced, so a stay here counts as a safari in itself. Its own productive waterhole draws a wide variety of wildlife, including a family of elephants that often visits, and both the thatched dining area and a bird-watching platform look straight out over it.
Can we bring young children to Thawale?
Children aged three and under are not accepted unless you book the camp on an exclusive-use basis. Majete is a predator-dense reserve and the lodge is unfenced, so children need to be supervised at all times. Talk to us if you are travelling with little ones and we will look at the options.
Which rooms suit couples and which suit families?
There are eight en-suite canvas tented suites with stone walls, one of them a honeymoon suite, plus two concrete and stone family chalets that each hold two en-suite bedrooms. Rates of US$260 per person per night cover all meals, laundry and two activities.
