Mikumi is easily reached by road from Dar es Salaam and is often compared to the Serengeti plains, thanks to the open expanse of the Mkata Floodplain at its heart. Its accessibility makes it a natural first stop, and it sits on the route to Nyerere (Selous) and Ruaha.
Zebra, wildebeest, buffalo and impala are common, along with giraffe and elephant. Lion and spotted hyena are present but seen less often.
Mikumi is warm to hot and humid year-round. The dry season runs from June to October (16°C to 26°C) and the wet season from November to May (20°C to 28°C).
Park fees are included in every Chalo Africa itinerary.
