How are the six days divided?
Four days in the Omo Valley and two in Lalibela. You fly Addis to Jinka on the first morning and drive to Turmi, stopping at Dimeka Market, then spend the next days with the Dassanech at Omorate, the Hamer people, and the Kara at Korcho, with Turmi market on day three. Day four returns to Addis, and days five and six cover Lalibela.
Are entrance and photography fees included?
Yes, and this matters more in the Omo Valley than most travellers expect. All entrance fees and all photography fees are covered in the price, along with all meals, accommodation, airport transfers, ground transport in a Toyota Land Cruiser 4x4 or minivan, professional local guides and government taxes. Visas, international flights, alcoholic drinks, tips and personal expenses are excluded.
Will we see the Hamer bull jumping ceremony?
There is an opportunity to witness it, but it cannot be guaranteed. Bull jumping is a real ceremony held according to family and community timing, not a scheduled performance, so seeing one depends on what is happening while you are in the area. Your guide will know what is taking place locally and steer the days accordingly.
What do we see in Lalibela?
The UNESCO-listed rock-hewn churches, explored across two days. Day five covers the Northwestern Group after you check in at Sora Lodge, and day six the Southeastern Group along with the Lalibela Museum. Some of the churches are connected by tunnels, and the highlights include Bete Giyorgis and Bete Medhane Alem, set within a living Orthodox Christian tradition.
Are the domestic flights part of the price?
They are. The cost of US$3,140 per person includes domestic airfare from Addis Ababa to Jinka and back, then Addis to Lalibela and back, at the discounted rates available for flying Ethiopian Airlines. If your international flights are with another airline, those domestic fares increase and the total will change, so tell us your inbound carrier early.
