About this Safari
The Kalahari Migration Safari is a 6 night serviced mobile safari including a scenic helicopter flight from Gweta to look for the zebra migration.
Your safari will begin in Maun with a 9:00 AM departure, heading towards your first destination: Deception Valley.
You’ll enjoy a scenic drive of approximately 5–6 hours, with a picnic lunch served en route. Upon arrival, you’ll settle into camp and spend your first three nights exploring this unique and wildlife-rich region of Central Kalahari Game Reserve.
And then finally exploring the Makgadikgadi Pans for 3 nights camping in a private campsite.
A helicopter scenic flight is included in this safari in search of the Zebra migration.

What kind of camping is this?
A serviced mobile safari, so a crew moves and sets up camp for you. Accommodation is in en-suite Meru style tents, with three nights in the Central Kalahari Game Reserve and three at a private campsite in the Makgadikgadi. It is comfortable camping rather than lodge living, and the sites are genuinely remote.
Which zebra migration does this follow?
The trip is timed for the zebra that leave the Boteti river system and concentrate on the open grasslands of the Makgadikgadi Pans, in numbers of up to 25,000 animals. A scenic helicopter flight from Gweta is included in the safari to search for the herds from the air.
When does it run, and why only then?
March and April, when the 2026 rate of US$3,270 per person sharing applies. The calendar shows the safari as closed for the rest of the year, because the dates follow the zebra movement rather than the usual safari season. If those months do not suit, we can suggest other Botswana options.
Where does the safari start and finish?
Both ends are Maun. Your guide meets you at Maun Airport at 9:00 and you set off in an open game drive vehicle, with the first leg a five to six hour scenic drive to Deception Valley and a picnic lunch en route. On day seven you return to Maun after an early breakfast and a final game drive.
What is the pace like over the six nights?
Unhurried, with two long moves and settled time in between. Three nights are spent exploring the Central Kalahari Game Reserve around Deception Valley, then camp is packed and moved east to the Makgadikgadi grasslands for three more. The transfers between areas are long, so it suits travellers content with time on the road.
