Babylonstoren is a historic Cape Dutch farm that boasts one of the best preserved farmyards in the Cape. Beloved for its garden that is laid out over 3,5 magnificent hectares (8 acres), the structure divides into 15 sections that include fruit, berries, bees for pollinating, indigenous plants, fragrant lawns, a prickly pear maze, a clivia tunnel and a plethora of trees of historical and botanical import.
The Farm Hotel has 13 guest cottages next to the garden, of which seven have basic kitchens. These were newly built in the Cape Dutch architect style on the foot prints of the original labourers’ cottages.

What does the rate cover beyond the room?
A good deal of the farm. Along with a Babylonstoren breakfast, the rate includes full access to the garden at any time, a private guided garden tour and farm walk, cycling and canoeing or rowing on the dam, fly fishing, a morning harvest with the gardeners, bread baking with the bakers, a cellar tour and wine tasting, and laundry of six items a day.
Is it worth staying more than one night?
There is a practical reason to. The afternoon drive is offered only on stays of two nights or longer, and the garden itself covers 3.5 hectares across 15 sections, including fruit, berries, bees, indigenous plants, a prickly pear maze and a clivia tunnel. One night rarely leaves time to see much of it.
Do any of the cottages have kitchens?
Seven of the 13 guest cottages have basic kitchens. All were newly built in Cape Dutch style on the footprints of the original labourers' cottages, right beside the garden. Rooms come with a personalised larder. Farmhouse suites are from ZAR 15,200 per person per night from May to August, and higher through the summer months.
