The architecture of Garden Lodge draws inspiration from the abundance of natural beauty surrounding it. Ceiling beams mimic the branches of the hallowed ancient milkwood trees. Is Garden Lodge a good choice for families?
It is the family option at Grootbos. Children of all ages are welcome and the lodge was built with multi-generational stays in mind, with activities and facilities aimed at different ages. The 11 free-standing suites come in one and two-bedroom layouts, which gives grandparents, parents and children room to spread out.
What do the rates cover?
Rates start from ZAR 12,100 per person per night and include accommodation, a welcome drink, daily fresh fruit in the suite, a breakfast buffet with full English menu, light lunch and a six-course dinner. Horse riding through the reserve is included for riders of all levels, with a 90kg weight limit and guided pony rides for under-12s.
Can we see whales from here?
Land-based whale watching is part of the coastal outings, particularly between June and December. Those drives and walks take in the Walker Bay Nature Reserve, the De Kelders cliff walk and Klipgat Cave. Closer to home there are fynbos nature tours, milkwood forest walks and birding, plus a pool looking out over the ocean.
