Kafunta River Lodge is a classic Zambian safari lodge, combining all the essentials for a great safari, including its spectacular location at the edge of the floodplain. Beyond the plain, lies the Luangwa River – one of the best game viewing areas in the magical South Luangwa National Park. This is indeed the premier park in Zambia and one of the best national parks in Africa. The lodge was fully renovated in 2019 and offers a relaxed atmosphere and great attention to details. We love what we do and we can’t wait to share this with you!

At Kafunta River Lodge, each of the luxury private chalets and the main lounge & dining area overlook the game rich flood plain. Beyond the plain is the Luangwa River and one of the best game viewing areas of the magical South Luangwa National Park, the premier park in Zambia and one of the best national parks in all of Africa.

WHY CHOOSE KAFUNTA RIVER LODGE?

  • You can absorb the stunning location and, while darkness falls, enjoy sumptuous candle lit meals under a vast African night sky, whilst watching as animals of all types come to the floodlit waterhole, a simply magical experience.
  • The wildlife hide underneath the deck is also the perfect place to enjoy a spot of birding or photography during the hottest part of the day.
  • Kafunta River Lodge has its own pontoon 5 minutes from the lodge and this adventurous river crossing takes you into the more remote areas of the park, giving access to extraordinarily good wildlife encounters.

Staying at Kafunta River Lodge

What does the lodge's pontoon give access to?

Kafunta has its own pontoon five minutes from the lodge, and that river crossing opens up the more remote areas of South Luangwa. It is an adventurous way to start a drive and gets you into country that vehicles based elsewhere reach far less often.

Is there good game viewing without going out?

There is. The chalets and the main lounge and dining area all overlook the game-rich floodplain, with the Luangwa River beyond, and a floodlit waterhole draws animals in while you eat by candlelight. A wildlife hide sits underneath the deck, which is the place to be for birding or photography in the heat of the day.
