Kibumba Camp is an excellent choice for those seeking a more affordable way to experience the mountain gorillas in Virunga National Park. The camp is conveniently located near the trailhead for Nyiragongo volcano, which makes it the perfect place to stay for those wanting to experience both gorillas and the world’s largest lava lake. Guests can also enjoy nature hikes just outside camp or walk down to the local Kibumba marketplace for a vibrant cultural experience.

Kibumba Tented Camp features all the necessities of a classic tented camp: great food, full bar, well-appointed tents with comfortable beds, and ensuite bathrooms with hot showers.

WHY CHOOSE KIBUMBA TENTED CAMP?

  • Virunga National Park is one of the most biologically diverse protected areas on the planet and the UNESCO designated the park as a World Heritage Site.
  • The park is also a geologic wonder and contains two of the world’s most active volcanoes

Booking Kibumba at present

Can we book Kibumba at the moment?

No. Virunga National Park's tourism programme, mountain gorilla trekking included, remains suspended because of the security situation in North Kivu, and we are unable to confirm bookings for this camp. Please get in touch and we will suggest gorilla trekking alternatives in Rwanda or Uganda for your dates.

What does the camp offer when Virunga is open?

It is the more affordable way to see the mountain gorillas of Virunga, and it sits near the trailhead for Nyiragongo, which makes it a natural base for combining gorillas with the world's largest lava lake. Tents are well appointed with comfortable beds and en-suite bathrooms with hot showers, and there is a full bar.

Is there anything to do around the camp itself?

There would be, in normal times. Nature hikes start just outside camp, and guests can walk down to the Kibumba marketplace for a taste of local life. The surrounding forest holds over 100 bird species, with the great blue turaco the prized sighting, in a park UNESCO designated a World Heritage Site.
