Thorntree sits on the Zambezi within Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park, close enough that the distant thunder of the Falls carries to the lodge. Private tours to both the Zambian and Zimbabwean sides can be arranged, and helicopter flights over the Falls are available as an extra.
What accommodation is there, and does it suit families?
The lodge has eight twin rooms plus two family units of four beds each, so families are well provided for. The design is contemporary but uses tented roof structures and draws on local customs and craft, and the lounge opens into the dining area with river views throughout.
What activities are covered by the rate?
From US$740 per person per night in the green season, the rate covers accommodation, all meals, laundry, and drinks other than premium imported spirits and champagne, along with game drives in Mosi-oa-Tunya, rhino tracking on foot, bush walks, sunrise and sunset boat cruises and visits to Simonga Village. Canoeing and fishing are also on offer.
