Luxury Mt Kilimanjaro Climb 2026

Africa’s highest peak and its iconic trek
Mount Kilimanjaro is the crown of Tanzania and the largest free-standing mountain in the world, with three volcanic peaks - Kibo, Mawenzi and Shira. Its name has been read variously as Mountain of Light, Mountain of Greatness and Mountain of Caravans. The lower slopes are lush farmland, where the Chagga people grow coffee, maize and bananas. Climbers can choose from five main routes: Marangu (the most popular, around five days), Machame, Umbwe, Shira and Mweka.
Kilimanjaro is a trekking rather than a game-viewing destination, but the forest zone on the lower slopes holds blue and colobus monkey, bushbuck, duiker and a rich birdlife. Higher up, the giant groundsels and lobelias of the moorland are the main attraction.
Kilimanjaro can be climbed all year round. April and May (long rains) and November (short rains) make the trails slippery and the trek considerably harder.
Park fees are included in every Chalo Africa itinerary.
