Uganda is a landlocked country bordered by South Sudan to the north, Kenya to the east, the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the west, and Tanzania and Rwanda to the south.

With unmatched up-close encounters, trekking through untamed, pristine rainforests, in search of the endangered mountain gorillas is the ultimate life-changing experience.

Questions about this twelve-day Uganda safari

How many primate treks are included?

Two gorilla trekking experiences in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and one chimpanzee trekking experience in Kibale Forest National Park, with a Bigodi swamp walk alongside it. Park fees, conservancy fees and all trekking permits are included. Two gorilla treks rather than one is the main reason people choose this itinerary over a shorter gorilla extension.

Which parks does the route cover?

You start at Entebbe, fly to Murchison Falls National Park for three nights at Nile Safari Lodge, then move on to Kibale for chimpanzees, spend four nights at Ishasha Wilderness Camp in a remote corner of Queen Elizabeth National Park on the Ntungwe River, and finish with three nights at Clouds Mountain Gorilla Lodge above Bwindi.

What is there to do besides trekking?

Day game drives, shared boat cruises and delta cruises are included at Nile Safari Camp, and day game drives and a shared boat cruise at Ishasha. There are community visits and tours, birding and wildlife walks throughout, and a complimentary massage per person per stay at both Kibale Lodge and Clouds Mountain Gorilla Lodge.

How do gorilla permits work?

Permits are allocated on a first come, first served basis, so early booking genuinely matters on this trip. If permits are only available in an alternative location, additional charges may apply. Both gorilla and chimpanzee trekking are permitted for children aged 15 and older. Internal flights carry a 15 kilogram baggage limit, in soft bags.

What does it cost and when is it cheapest?

From US$20,614 per person sharing for 1 March to 31 May and 1 October to 30 November. The window from 1 to 14 December is US$23,055, and the peak band of US$27,128 covers 1 January to 28 February, 1 June to 30 September and 15 to 31 December. Full board, drinks at the safari properties, permits, scheduled flights and transfers are included; international flights, visas and gratuities are not.
