Kapamba sits on the quiet banks of the Kapamba River in the remote southern reaches of South Luangwa — peaceful, intimate, and unlike anywhere else on the circuit. Four open-fronted thatched chalets overlook the river beneath towering trees, each with a private veranda and indoor and outdoor showers. The central lounge and dining area opens onto a wide deck with a plunge pool — the perfect place to watch the river and whatever comes to drink from it.
This is a bushcamp where the quiet Kapamba river setting is not the main focus. It is the experience. Sundowners, lunches, and dinners in the Kapamba River itself — feet in the cool, clear shallows, the bush all around you. Two chalets have raised star beds for sleeping under the African sky. And the walking safaris and game drives that leave from here explore some of the richest wildlife country in the park.

It is one of only two Bushcamps open from April to January, so it covers a much longer season than the others in the group. That makes it useful for green season travel as well as the peak dry months. Rates start from around US$731 per person per night.
Can we sleep out under the stars?
Two of the chalets have raised sleep-out salas with small bathrooms, good for a night outside or an afternoon siesta. The bedrooms themselves are open-fronted with wide verandas and twin showers looking over the river, and wrought-iron shutters pull closed at night so you hear the bush without unwanted visitors.
What happens during the heat of the day?
When conditions allow, guests sit in the shallow Kapamba River right in front of camp, or use the swimming pool on the deck. Mornings are given to a walking safari or game drive, with another drive in the afternoon or evening. The living area shelters under matumi and sausage trees.
