Ruaha River Lodge was the only safari camp in the national park for two decades, before Tanzania opened to international tourism. Barely at all. Ruaha River Lodge was the only safari camp in the national park for two decades before Tanzania opened to international tourism, which secured it a prime stretch of river far from any other lodge. Guests routinely report feeling as though they have the park to themselves.
What are the rooms like?
There are 24 stone chalets strung along the bank of the Great Ruaha River, on one of the most attractive stretches of it, so game can be watched from your own veranda through the day. Baobabs dot the landscape around. Private dinners on the veranda and bush breakfasts can be arranged.
Can you sleep out in the bush, and what about children?
Fly camping is offered in Ruaha and is a good way to spend a night deeper in the bush. Children aged five to 14 sharing with two or more adults are charged at 50 per cent of the adult rate. Rates start from US$350 per person per night on a game package covering bed, breakfast, lunch, tea and dinner.
