An Overview – Tanzania Visa India Requirements

Citizens of India require a visa to enter Tanzania. If you are applying for a Tanzania visa as an Indian tourist, you can get your visa prior to departure (eVisa or from the Tanzania High Commission in New Delhi) or upon arrival in Tanzania:

The High Commission is open for visa application Monday–Friday, 10:00 to 12:00, and for visa collection Monday–Friday, 15:30 to 16:30, with the exception of Indian and Tanzanian national holidays. Visa processing takes 24 hours.

Tanzania Online Visas for Indian Citizens

You can now apply for an Online Visa to visit the United Republic of Tanzania (both Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar). You are required to fill in the online form, make payment, and submit your application online. Your form will be internally reviewed and processed.

Applicants will be notified through their e-mails whether their applications have been accepted or rejected. They may also TRACK their application statuses through the online system.

You are encouraged to apply for an online visa as it should speed up your arrivals process. Visa requirements and costs for travellers to Tanzania have remained the same, and depend on the nationality of the passport holder.

Visa on Arrival Tanzania (from India)

Tanzania visa on arrival facilities are available for Indian citizens. It is best to have the exact visa fees in cash (new notes) on arrival.

Tanzania Visa: You may also pay by credit card but this is not 100% guaranteed. Visa, Mastercard are accepted but NOT AMEX. If you are getting a Tanzania visa at the airport (or port of entry), please ensure you have the correct documentation.

Fees for applying for a Tanzania visa from India

Tanzania visa from India: Application fee for single-entry, tourist visa: INR 3250

Payment must be in Indian rupees by bankers draft, addressed to the Tanzania High Commission. Cash will not be accepted.

Please verify the latest charges on the High Commission website.

Documents required for a Tanzanian visa for Indian Citizens

  • Passport (with minimum 6 months validity and at least one unused page for stamps)
  • Application form, duly completed
  • Two (2) recently taken, passport-size photographs
  • A photocopy of return ticket or flight confirmation slip
  • Company/organization/school or an invitation letter from the Tanzania counterpart
  • Proof of yellow fever vaccination (if applicable)
  • If Applicant is a minor (under 18 years), evidence of parental authority or legal guardians is required approving the minor to travel.
  • Payment of the prescribed application fee

    Can I get a tourist visa on arrival or should I apply on embassy. I’m an indian citizen as working in RD Congo. I ve already yellow fever card which is validaty for 10 years. Also I ve to show hotel booking in Tanzania or Zanzibar. Plz suggest me

    Is it not possible to apply for a visa if the port of first entry is Zanzibar, and we have no plans to go to the mainland at all? Is there any requirement to make bookings for a safari on the mainland as a pre-requisite for a visa? Thanks.

      Hi Sapna – It is possible to obtain a tourist’s visa for a single entry at any one of the following four main entry points to Tanzania, subject to the fulfilment of all immigration and health requirements:

      Dar es Salaam International Airport
      Zanzibar International Airport
      Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA)
      Namanga Entry Point (Tanzania-Kenya boarder point)

      Hi Sri – As a tourist you can get visa on arrival. You need an invitation letter from the person organising your holiday (or the properties you are staying at).

        Hi Vimal, You’ll need to fill up a form on arrival, provide some supporting documentation (like your trip itinerary), and pay in cash (US $50 – new notes only). Sometimes they also require passport photographs.

      Hi Gunwant, No YF vaccination required for Tanzania if you are coming directly (and not via YF endemic country). You do need an invitation letter.

    Hi, I am in kenya from last 15 years and my permanent residence has been cancelled. They have put a delete stamp on my passport. Can I use the same passport to travel tanzania or there might be a problem at immigration in airport

    Hi Saad – you can also apply for a visa in your local embassy, or receive a visa on arrival (if eligible). Visa on arrival may take some time now, so an evisa is recommended.
