Questions about this Serengeti and Rwanda combo
How do you fit the Serengeti and gorillas into seven days?
By flying and by staying in well-placed lodges. You start at Singita Sasakwa Lodge and Faru Faru Lodge in the privately owned Grumeti Reserve in northern Tanzania, part of the Serengeti Mara ecosystem and on the migratory route, then move to Kigali for a night before two nights at Singita Kwitonda Lodge near Volcanoes National Park.
Are gorilla permits and park fees included?
No. The rate covers full board at the safari properties, twice-daily game drives in open vehicles, bed and breakfast at Hemingways Retreat in Kigali with a welcome massage and a cultural activity, tennis at Sasakwa, airstrip transfers, laundry and WiFi. Wildlife fees, park fees, concession fees, the tourism development levy and the carbon offset levy are quoted separately.
Are there age limits for the treks?
Yes. Gorilla trekking is permitted for children aged 15 and older, and the golden monkey experience for those aged 12 and older. If you are travelling with younger children, the Serengeti portion still works well, but the Rwanda treks would need rethinking, so do talk to us before booking.
What time do the treks start?
Both gorilla and golden monkey trekking begin at 07:00, and guests need to be at the park office by 06:40. That means early starts on trek days, which is worth bearing in mind when planning your evenings and when choosing international flight times around the Rwanda leg.
How much does it cost and when is it best value?
Prices start from US$21,781 per person for 1 April to 31 May 2026. From 1 to 30 March and 1 November to 19 December the rate is US$26,483, and 4 January to 28 February and 1 June to 31 October are US$27,587. The trip starts at Kilimanjaro International Airport and ends at Kigali International Airport.
