Planning this East Africa flying safari
Which countries and parks does this 13-day trip cover?
You begin in Nairobi and take in five ecosystems across Kenya and Tanzania: Amboseli National Park, Loisaba Conservancy, the Masai Mara National Reserve, the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Movement between them is by SkySafari flight rather than long road transfers, which is what makes a route of this spread workable in under a fortnight.
What is Loisaba Conservancy like compared with the better-known parks?
Loisaba is private, with views across to Mount Kenya from the escarpment where the tented camp sits. Game viewing is strong and includes species you are unlikely to find in the Mara or Serengeti, among them wild dog, Grevy's zebra, greater kudu, oryx and the melanistic leopard. Bush walks and bush breakfasts are part of the stay here.
Which Serengeti camp will we be in?
That depends on the month. From June to October the three Serengeti nights are at Elewana Serengeti Migration Camp in a remote part of the northern Serengeti. From November to May the stay switches to Elewana Serengeti Pioneer Camp. The camps are matched to where wildlife concentrations tend to be at that point in the year.
What is included in the price?
Rates start from US$22,084 per person sharing and cover half board at Hemingways Nairobi and full board at every safari property, soft drinks, beer, house wine and select spirits, and shared scheduled day game drives with sundowners. Guided bush walks and bush breakfasts are included at Tortilis Camp and Loisaba, along with activities such as lion tracking, mountain biking, a Samburu village visit and horse riding or camel trekking.
When is this itinerary least expensive to book?
Three price bands apply in 2026. The lowest, US$22,084 per person, runs 1 April to 31 May. June, and 1 November to 19 December, are priced at US$22,820. The peak band of US$24,975 covers 1 to 4 January, 1 July to 31 October and 20 to 31 December. Dates can often be shifted a little to land in a better band.
