Wild Romance: Kenya for Honeymooners 2026

Remote, lush wilderness of Born Free fame
Meru is an under-explored park that rewards visitors with excellent wildlife and very few other vehicles. All of the Big Five can be found here. Tall doum and raffia palms grow along the watercourses, and the park takes in luxuriant bush, coursing rivers, verdant swamp and khaki grassland beneath a vast blue sky. The Tana River, Kenya's largest waterway, forms its southern boundary.
Meru is home to elephant, zebra, beisa oryx, reticulated giraffe, lion, the odd-looking gerenuk, bush pig, eland, waterbuck, cheetah, leopard, hippo, Bohor reedbuck, hartebeest and buffalo, as well as python, puff adder and cobra. More than 400 bird species have been recorded.
Meru is hot and fairly arid, though low humidity makes the heat less punishing. Its position near the Equator means the climate is consistent year-round: around 32°C by day, falling to about 17°C at night. There is little rain in the dry season from June to October. The wet season runs from November to May, with short rains in November and long rains in April.
Park fees are included in every Chalo Africa itinerary.
