Camp Details

The Baobabs of Kitangani is an exclusive, private camp situated on the Northern part of Kiwayu Island overlooking the circular bay and Mkokoni village. Completely secluded and removed from the rest of the world. Where the experience is about barefoot luxury and authenticity without compromising on the comfort and standard, literally burying your toes in the sand whilst sipping on a chilled beverage watching the sunlight dance across the waves.

Four rustic, elegant and cool bandas sit amongst a grove of giant baobabs in a sheltered cove trimmed with white sandy beaches. Each banda has large double traditional Swahili beds, vibrant kanga cushions, hammocks and star-palm matting, with star gazing decks. The dining area and bar are situated on the beach and are furnished with Swahili beds, hammocks and cushions. There is no need for concrete here.

There is no end to the exploring to be had on and around Kiwayu island hopping, extraordinary wild walking on beaches, dunes, and coastal bush. Snorkeling on any number of coral heads, body surfing, kayaking, birding, rock-pooling, picnics in coral coves and secluded beaches. One of the most exciting bio-diverse areas in Kenya, the Kiunga Marine Reserve is a wonder for anyone in love with the Natural World.

WHY CHOOSE BAOBABS OF KITANGANI?

• Kiwayu and Baobabs of Kitangani pride themselves on producing fresh, innovative and delicious cuisine.
• Kiwayu Island has 50 kilometre beaches with soft white sand which are home to the turtles that nest on the island’s outer shores.
• On the island and mainland there is a vast array of birdlife and wildlife within these unique ecosystems, and a rich cultural heritage and the starry night sky is also quite magnificent!
• The island is famous for its breathtaking sunsets, there is nothing “not to love”.
