Sometimes less really is more. Fewer people, more animals. No crowds, better experience. So it is at Swala Camp, in Tanzania’s magnificent yet relatively little visited Tarangire National Park. It’s not exactly undiscovered or any kind of secret – the park’s thriving elephant population is world-famous – but a wonderful serenity prevails. The camp’s name alludes to its resident herd of impala, though their presence at the waterhole attracts a lot of other wildlife too – the interest of the lurking lions and leopards may not be entirely benign.
