Find your Feet in the Delta: Walking Safaris

November 8, 2019

A traditional safari experience is to completely immerse oneself in the wilderness on foot and while it is historically not considered a walking safari destination the Okavango Delta could not be more perfect for it.

Walking in big game country awakens senses you never knew you had and, as you will discover, there is nothing quite like tiptoeing through tall grasses to lengthen your attention span. That is why on our safaris you will never walk with out the protection of an experienced guide who knows how to use the rifle he carries.

Walking releases you from the dictatorship of roads that many of the national parks and concessions restrict you to. Only on foot can you enter into the wilderness such as the Okavango Delta and feel totally still and uninterrupted by the ongoing distractions of everyday life. Wandering the open flood plains, interpreting the maze of migratory tracks and hear every sound and breathe in the intoxicating smells of the sun-dried grass as the day cools down.

“Yet the real joy of such mornings comes not from the unpredictable moments of heart-stopping drama, but from the pristine beauty of the world around you.” – Brian Jackman, Writer

At every turn, animals reveal themselves: giraffe and zebra, buffalo and herds of elephants on their migration march. Around it all the flood waters will begin to flow, filling up lagoons and water holes, allowing for a natural Eden to form all around you. No better way or place to spend a day in Africa.
