Lake Manyara National Park, Tanzania
Lake Manyara National Park is often the first stopover for those on a Tanzania safari. It is located a short distance away from Arusha, where most "Northern Circuit" safaris begin, and not too far from the iconic Ngorongoro Crater. The park is named after Lake Manyara, an alkaline lake that attracts a variety of birds, including parades of flamboyant flamingos. The park is moderately-sized, covering an area of 330 square kilometres. While it is home to tree-climbing lions, these are not usually easy to spot. It is better known for its elephant population, part of the Tarangire-Manyara ecosystem. The park is also hme to buffalo, zebra, giraffe and nearly 400 recorded species of birds. There are a diverse range of accommodation options available and aside from game drives, guests can do other activities such as mountain biking and go on walking safaris.
