Chem Chem Lodge, Lake Manyara, Tanzania

Lake Manyara National Park sits at the base of the Rift Valley escarpment. First proclaimed a game reserve in 1957, it became a national park three years later. The landscape takes in forest, woodland, grassland and swamp, and the southern end of the park holds the hot sulphur springs known as Majimoto.
Buffalo, elephant, giraffe, impala and hippo are all found here, along with a great variety of smaller animals. The park is famous for its tree-climbing lions. More than 400 bird species have been recorded.
The climate is mild all year round, with cold mornings and late evenings. The dry season runs from June to September (14°C to 26°C) and the wet season from November to May (17°C to 29°C).
Park fees are included in every Chalo Africa itinerary.
