Though many of us know it as plain old Victoria Falls, was there ever a more lyrical, evocative name for a waterfall than Mosi-oa-Tunya, “The Smoke That Thunders”? It’s not just any waterfall, of course. It’s the largest curtain of falling water on the face of the earth. And it’s understandable that Zambia is so strongly identified with this miracle of nature; yet there’s more, much more. Your Zambian adventure begins just upstream from the thundering smoke, at A&K Sanctuary Sussi & Chuma Lodge, named (also rather evocatively) in honour of David Livingstone’s loyal companions and fellow-adventurers Sussi and Chuma.
A place of remarkable contrasts: the lodge itself occupies a blissfully peaceful spot on a bend in the Zambezi within the splendid Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park, surrounded by leafy jackalberry trees and majestic phoenix palms. Yet these smooth waters quickly gather momentum downstream, culminating in due course and spectacular fashion at Mosi-oa-Tunya itself, the waterfall to end all waterfalls.

The tree houses are the lodge's signature accommodation, raised among the trees on the riverbank, and children aged six and older are welcome in them. The Chuma houses accept children of all ages, so families with younger children are usually placed there.
