Are African safaris safe?

December 29, 2015

Umm… isn’t it dangerous to be in an open air jeep with a lion besides you?

Funnily enough, it isn’t! Provided you are sensible. In other words, provided you and your limbs remain inside the vehicle at all times and you do nothing to irritate or annoy the lion. Apparently, animals do not see the box-like shape of the vehicle as a threat and think nothing of lying in the shade of the jeep to cool off, with you just a few feet above them. I am not entirely sure about this theory, but I do know that game drives are not dangerous activities. Elephants can sometimes object to a vehicle but the vehicle can usually outpace them!
