Unusually quiet. Game drives on Mugie Wildlife Conservancy in northern Laikipia rarely have more than two vehicles out at a time, so sightings tend to be intimate. The conservancy holds thriving populations of lion, cheetah, elephant, impala, eland, reticulated giraffe and zebra, along with Grevy's zebra, Jackson's hartebeest and Beisa oryx.

Can we get involved in the conservation work?

Yes. Guests can join training exercises with the anti-poaching bloodhounds, take part in the Laikipia Predator Project and learn how better livestock management benefits both the community and wildlife. Visits to local Pokot and Samburu villages are also included in the rate.

Is there anything to do on the water?

Mugie's reservoir hosts herds of bathing elephant daily, and one of the more memorable ways to watch them is from a kayak nearby. Kayaking, fishing and camel rides are included, as are night drives and guided walks. Rates start from US$555 per person per night in the quieter months.
