Segera Retreat, Laikipia, Kenya
A Luxury Lodge or Hotel in Kenya
Camp Details
Segera Retreat is a splash of green in a golden savannah. With a legacy of true Kenyan ranch life set against the filmic grasslands that landscape the foothills of Mount Kenya, Segera has been rejuvenated into a fertile home for conservation, community, culture and commerce. Behind a living cactus boma, the lush gardens flicker with sunbirds and inspire with sculptures, pools and elegant thatched villas.
Segera emits creative energy and the kind of hospitality you find with favourite friends. It is a beacon for interesting minds, mavericks, art lovers and those looking for fantastic wildlife experiences, wellness, incredible dining experiences and new ways to engage with Kenya’s evolving culture. Segera’s exclusively private 50 000 acres are home to lion, leopard, cheetah, elephant and buffalo as well as endangered species such as reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, Lelwel’s Hartebeest and African wild dog. You’ll seek out these species along with classic plains game and up to 150 bird species on daily game drives in open-sided safari vehicles with talented guides.
WHY CHOOSE SEGERA RETREAT?
- Each Villa has a private deck overlooking the African savannah, with the exception of Villa 5 which is nestled within the botanical sculpture garden.
- Abundant plains games, range-restricted species, endangered mammals, mega-herbivores and predators use Segera as well as neighboring conservation areas.
- Activities are offered off a 4C menu, which is based on the innovative 4Cs philosophy (a sustainability framework comprised of Conservation, Community, Culture and Commerce) and can be facilitated through personal host.
- Segera helps conserve the second-highest density of wildlife in Kenya
- An exclusive retreat which expresses just how luxurious sustainability can be
- At Segera, art and an aesthetic experience surround you at every turn
Questions about Segera
What is the 4C menu?
Segera builds its activities around a sustainability framework of Conservation, Community, Culture and Commerce, and guests choose from a menu drawn along those four lines, arranged through a personal host. It is a different approach from a fixed timetable of drives, and it suits people who want to understand how the retreat works.
What are the villas like?
Elegant and thatched, each with a private deck looking out over the savannah. The exception is Villa 5, which sits within the botanical sculpture garden instead. Behind a living cactus boma, the gardens hold sculptures and pools, and sunbirds move through them, so the setting is as much an art experience as a safari one.
What wildlife is on the property, and what do rates cover?
